The Phoenix Suns are an American professional basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Western Conference Pacific Division.
The only one of their division not to be based in California, it is one of four major major league sports teams to be based in Phoenix. However, it is the only one to bill themselves as representing the city (the Cardinals, Coyotes, and Diamondbacks all bill themselves as representing the state of Arizona).
In February 2023, Mat Ishbia took control of the team after acquiring a majority stake (57 percent) and receiving approval from the NBA Board of Governors. The Suns was one of the sporting assets in Arizona that the former Michigan State player purchased from investor Robert Sarver. They play their home games at the Footprint Center.
